Fall Fun!

The kindergarteners were excited to see the leaves finally change color. We enjoyed playing in the leaves, admiring their color and collecting the leaves.

Collecting leaves outside!

We love fall!

October 2018

Author Visit
The girls were thrilled to meet the author of Snow Ponies.

Pumpkin Project

This week the girls learned all about pumpkins. Each of the girls had their own mini pumpkin that they used for various activities and investigations throughout the week.

We read the big book Pumpkins and learned all about the parts of a pumpkin and how they grow.

Discussing what they know about pumpkins and describing how it looks and feels with a partner.

The girls measured the height and circumference of their mini pumpkin using unifex cubes. Then they measured how heavy the pumpkin was using a scale.

Do pumpkins sink or float?

Using their knowledge about apples, the girls predicted that pumpkins float. They all predicted correctly and were surprised to see that both their mini pumpkin and the big class pumpkin floated.

How many seeds in a pumpkin?

The girls guessed how many seeds they thought were in their mini pumpkins. Then we read, How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin by Margaret McNamara. After reading the book, the girls got all messy as they looked inside their pumpkins and took out all the seeds. Once the seeds were roasted, they counted all of the seeds in each pumpkin by creating piles of ten and then counting by tens. They were all surprised how many seeds were hidden inside of the pumpkin.

"There are so many seeds!"

We collected all of our seeds!

We are writers!

All week the girls have been working hard on their True Stories. They all wrote about something special they did with their families over the weekend. In pairs, the girls discussed their stories to their partners before writing. The next day the girls discussed what they have accomplished so far and added any additional details suggested by their partner. Lastly, they finished their stories, labeled and some even wrote sentences to go with their illustrations. They were so ecstatic on their accomplishments and had the opportunity to sit in the authors chair to share their amazing stories with the class.

Happy Halloween!
The girls enjoyed their Halloween get together with their 8th grade big sisters. They also walked with with their big sister and completed a total of 5 laps during the walkathon. Go Kindergarten!

Halloween Fun!

After an eventful morning, the girls told spooky stories around a pretend campfire. They also made s'mores and drank delicious hot chocolate with giant marshmallows.
